Rare and unique Chicano and Latino resources in Special Collections are part of the Boeckmann Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies. Formats range from primary sources, such as ephemera, letters, and photographs to rare books and pamphlets, historic newspapers, and periodicals that support research and instruction relevant to Latinos in the United States, who may also identify as Hispanic, Chicano/a, Latinx or by national heritage. The collection dates from the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to the present and seeks to provide greater understanding of historical, cultural, social and political experiences and contributions of Latinos and Latino communities in Los Angeles and Southern California.

Selected highlights include:

  • L.A. Murillo papers

  • Ruben Salazar papers and those of other Latino journalists

  • Chicano poets and writers

  • USC Festivales de Flor y Canto, 1973 and 2010, in the USC Digital Library

  • Cuban California Archive, and the papers of Aurelio de la Vega and Carlos Sebastian Lorente
